about

Lagos based producer & beatmaker Mayorchux gives “Japa Japa” a banging Amapiano styled makeover. Inspired by the recent wave of young Nigerians migrating to Europe, UK and North America be it legal or illegally, Japa Japa (the Yoruba word for “runaway”) reminds listeners of the effects this massive brain drain is having on all sectors across the continent from education to healthcare to families being torn apart. While such movement might promise greater freedom and life chances, “Japa Japa” argues that the reality is too often one of a second enslavement – “First dem slave our body to cut sugarcane, now they drain our brain for cheap labour and gain ” sings BANTU. Thanks to Mayorchux’s punchy percussive and synth heavy club sound, the 13-piece collective’s remix is bound to engage a new audience both on and off the dancefloor.
